After a test last year during holiday periods, Macy's is about to deploy beacons in all its stores, which would correspond to roughly 4,000 small Bluetooth Low Energy tags that are spread across them.
As announced in its experimental phase, Macy's has partnered with Shopkick px exchange and ShopBeacons for this project. The Shopkick application will be open on the smartphone for customers to receive targeted offers (recommendations, discounts ...) depending on their trips to the store.
The installation of these tags should be completed this fall, which would allow the US retail chain to enjoy during the Christmas season. At first, notifications will be rather brief, before being more targeted in the spring 2015. If this facility would be the largest ever for Shopkick, others could soon follow as American Eagle, Best Buy, Target or JC Penney that the group has as partners.
